Georgia calls for strengthening US presence in the South Caucasus
Baku / 18.11.20 / Turan: At a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia noted that the basis of the partnership between the two countries is the same values and common geostrategic interests, Georgian media reported.
The Georgian authorities are in favor of strengthening cooperation with the United States on defense and security issues in the Caucasus and strengthening the US representation in this region, Gakharia said.
According to the press service of the Georgian government, Gakharia noted that the basis of the strategic partnership of the two countries is such values as freedom and democracy, as well as common geostrategic interests. According to him, Tbilisi appreciates "the unwavering support of the people and the US government for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity." "You know well how important this issue is for our country, whose territories are occupied, since the occupying forces are still stationed on our land," the Georgian prime minister stressed.
In turn, Mike Pompeo noted that America in the future would do everything possible to strengthen the democratic institutions of Georgia, to support the processes of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the country. -02D-
