Former Georgian Defense Minister Tina Khidasheli believes that the Georgian government's statements on the Mukhtarly case are "absolutely unconvincing."

"It is impossible for a country to have a claim to democracy and kidnap a person on its territory, then transport it to a country where it once fled because of a political threat." Therefore, the government was already supposed to publish evidence, distribute video footage about the person's movement.
