Hilal Mamedov is hinted that he was arrested because of meykhana "Come on, bye!"
The Committee to protect the rights of Hilal Mamedov, the editor of "Tolyshi Sado," deputy chairman of the Talysh Cultural Centre, held on Friday first press conference in the office party "Musavat".
The lawyer Ramiz Mammadov touched on the fact his violation of his client's rights during his detention. According to him, on June 21, seven or eight people in plainclothes forcibly pushed him into the car and drove away.
As for the charges in possession of drugs, brought against him, they are "ridiculous." The lawyer said that during his arrest, his client was planted something in his pocket. And when getting off the car near the Office to Fight Against Drugs, they told him sarcastically that he will sing his meykhana "Come on, bye" when drugs will be found in his pocket. The lawyer believes that the prosecution of drug possession is a reason for arrest. The true reason for Mammadov’s arrest, is his active civil position.
The lawyer also reminded that Hilal Mamedov was beaten during arrest by persons in civilian clothes, and was injured. Materials have been sent to the Nizami Prosecutor Office in this regard. As for the investigation, it is accompanied by serious violations.
Co-Chairman of the Committee Rafik Jalilov called essential a support of Hilal Mamedov by the opposition parties and civil society. He said that the Committee intends to strengthen the protection of Hilal Mamedov, and called on civil society to monitor the situation.
Hilal Mamedov was arrested on 21 June this year, and on June 22 Nizami court sanctioned his arrest for three months under the Article 234 of the Criminal Code (drug possession). According to this charge, Hilal Mamedov can be imprisoned from five to twelve years. -05C04-
