Historic Prisoner Exchange Between Azerbaijan and Armenia on Border
Baku/13.12.23/Turan: In a significant development today, the Azerbaijani State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons officially confirmed the successful execution of a prisoner exchange at the Gazakh district border at precisely 15:30 on Wednesday, December 13.
The exchange saw Azerbaijan releasing 32 Armenian prisoners of war, reciprocated by Armenia releasing two Azerbaijani prisoners.
Prior to the exchange, the ICRC conducted thorough assessments of the prisoners' conditions, providing an independent verification of their health and overall status. Fortunately, all individuals involved were found to be in good health, easing concerns about their well-being.
Importantly, the exchange transpired without any reported incidents, underscoring the smooth execution and adherence to protocols by both nations involved. The lack of disruptions during the process marks a positive step toward diplomatic cooperation in the region.
This development is viewed as a constructive move in the ongoing efforts to foster peace and stability between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The humane treatment and release of prisoners reflect a commitment to the principles of international humanitarian law.
