Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan and Hungary Are Strategic Partners

Bilateral documents were signed yesterday in Budapest after the talks between the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

In particular, Aliyev and Orban signed a joint declaration on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Hungary.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of National Economy of Hungary signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism;

The Mayoralties of Baku and Budapest signed a protocol of friendship and cooperation;

The Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary signed a memorandum of cooperation;

The Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Hungary signed an agreement on air services;

The Azerbaijani Communications Ministry and the Ministry of Development of Hungary signed a document on the establishment of a regional information center in Baku.

In a briefing for the press Orbán stressed the importance of energy cooperation between Hungary and Azerbaijan.

"As a result of the agreements signed, the Azerbaijani gas will be transported to southern Europe. In the future the appropriate infrastructure should be created to supply the gas also to Central Europe. Pipelines will be laid for this. The EU has done very little for it. But we must demonstrate that we can get gas from neighboring countries.

I note that not all the states in the region think like us. Some of our neighbors do not have the appropriate conditions and opportunities for this. Without this we cannot transport Azerbaijani gas to Hungary," said Orban.

He also noted that an agreement was achieved on training 200 Azerbaijani students in Hungary. In addition, it is expected to open a faculty of one of the Hungarian universities in Azerbaijan.

In turn, Aliyev noted that the signed declaration on strategic partnership is a great way for future agreements between the EU and Azerbaijan.

He also pointed out that, in addition to energy, the priorities of cooperation include mutual investments, information and communications, and trade. -06D-
