Ilham Aliyev Nominated as Presidential Candidate for Fourth Time
Baku / 01.02.2018 / Turan: In the upcoming presidential elections in October 2018, the current head of state, Ilham Aliyev, will be the candidate from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party. This was announced today by the Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmedov at a meeting with youth activists on the occasion of Youth Day.
He expressed hope that the youth activists of the party will contribute to the victory of Ilham Aliyev. Thus, 57-year-old Aliyev is already nominated for the fourth time in a row as a presidential candidate. He was elected in the elections of 2003, 2008 and 2013.
In 2009, at the constitutional referendum, restrictions were suspended on the stay of one person as President for no more than two consecutive terms of office.
According to changes in the Constitution in September 2016, the term of office of the President is extended from 5 to 7 years and this norm comes into force from 2018.
According to the election code, presidential elections are scheduled to take place on the third Wednesday of October 2018, in this case on October 17. -06D-
