Ilham Aliyev on OSCE / ODIHR Double Standards and Dialogue with Opposition
Baku / 11.03.20 / Turan: The main reason for holding early parliamentary elections on February 9 was the desire to deepen reforms. This was stated on March 10 at the first meeting of the new parliament by head of state Ilham Aliyev.
According to him, the elections were fair and people were pleased with its results, "as evidenced by the events observed after the elections."
However, the OSCE / ODIHR, “always approaching the election process in Azerbaijan through the prism of double standards and in a biased way,” found some errors, trying to present them as a big event. The cancellation of the results in 4 districts indicates that Azerbaijan itself is interested in the absence of shortcomings, Aliyev said.
In his opinion, the new parliament is multi-party and the Milli Majlis will play a big role in improving the political system. “Political reforms are impossible without a broad dialogue between parties. One ruling party cannot conduct political dialogue alone,” Aliyev said. At the same time, he expressed dissatisfaction with the refusal of the National Council and the Popular Front party to participate in elections and hold dialogue with the authorities. -02D-
