Ilham Aliyev received the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus
Baku/19.02.18/Turan: On February 19 at the meeting of President Ilham Aliyev with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Toivo Clara, were discussed the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union. Aliyev mentioned the recent meeting in Baku of the advisory council for the Southern Gas Corridor and fruitful negotiations with the Vice-President of the European Commission on Energy Maros Shefkovic on the prospects of developing ties in the energy sector and other areas.
He confirmed the positive development dynamics in the relations between Azerbaijan and the EU recently. This applies not only to energy, but also to the political, trade, investment, transport spheres, as well as security and culture issues.
The importance of deepening these ties will be reflected in the new partnership agreement, Aliyev said.
Clara, in turn, noted the positive dynamics in the relations of the party. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for the Karabakh settlement. Armenia continues its occupation policy and destroys national, religious and historical monuments of Azerbaijan in the occupied territories.
To resolve the conflict, Armenia must begin withdrawing its troops from the occupied territories and ensure the accession of international norms, Aliyev said. -06D-
