Iranian President to Arrive in Mid-November
In mid-November, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will visit Azerbaijan, Turan was told in the press service of the Iranian Embassy in Baku.
“Currently we are working on the program of the visit. This will be the first visit of Rouhani to Azerbaijan in the rank of the President,” the embassy said.
Recently the Azerbaijani-Iranian high-level contacts have intensified. This occurred against the background of improving relations between Tehran and the West.
Especially noticeable are warming of relations in the sphere of energy, when Tehran offered to supply its gas to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor, i.e. through Azerbaijan.
It is not ruled out that the issues of cooperation in the supply of gas to the West through Azerbaijan will be the focus of the upcoming visit.
Another important issue may be a problem of sector division of the Caspian Sea. After the last summit in Astrakhan, all the parties expressed a significant advancement in the development of the final status of the Caspian Sea. In particular, Tehran agreed to the creation of zones of economic interests of each riparian country. This means the actual rejection of the old idea of Tehran on the section of the sea into five equal parts. -03B-
