Josep Borrell: There is a historic chance to achieve peace in the South Caucasus
Baku/12.12.23/Turan: On December 11, in Brussels, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov was received by the High Representative of the European Union for External Relations and Security Policy Joseph Borrell.
According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, bilateral relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan, including within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, as well as the current situation in the region were discussed at the meeting.
Bayramov informed about the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The positive impact of recent confidence-building measures on the process of normalizing relations between the two countries was noted.
Bayramov said that the mediation efforts of the President of the Council of the EU Charles Michel in the normalization process are highly appreciated by Azerbaijan. However, “biased statements by some EU officials undermine the EU’s mediating role” in this process.
Bayramov emphasized that the establishment of good neighborly relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is the only path to peace, stability and tranquility in the South Caucasus, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In turn, Josep Borrell wrote on his Twitter account that he had a good exchange of views with Minister Bayramov on EU-Azerbaijan cooperation and the broader regional context.
“There is a historic chance to achieve the long-awaited peace in the South Caucasus. The EU is fully committed to supporting the process of normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,” noted the High Representative of the European Union for External Relations and Security Policy. -03-
