Journalist P. Gashimli"s Relatives Believe His Arrest Politically Motivated
The mother of the journalist of the newspaper Bizim Yol , moderator.az Site Director , Chairman of the Center for the Defence of Political and Civil Rights Parviz Gashimly, who was arrested yesterday, has no information about the place of detention of the journalist.
His brother Zaman Gashimly told Turan, the rights of Parviz Gashimly will be protected by the lawyer Elchin Sadigov . He noted that a grenade was "found" during the search of the house of the journalist under the sofa.
According to Z.Gashimly , the wife of the journalist stated that they had no weapon at home, and the grenade was thrown up by the MNS person who was searching the room.
Z. Gashimli also said that recently the representatives of MNS threatened his brother, and it's probably due to his political activities and criticizing in the social networks ( P.Gashimli is also a member of the PPFA).
MNS does not provide any official information about the arrest of Parviz Gashimly .
Parviz Gashimly is charged under two articles of the Criminal Code : 206.3.2 (smuggling) and 228.2.1 (illegal possession of weapons) .
In the newspaper Bizim Yol they do not believe that Parviz Gashimly committed the actions incriminated. They hope that the investigation will be conducted objectively and without bias.
The head of the Media Rights Institute (MRI) Rashid Hajily did not comment due to his lack of thorough information , noting the lack of official information about the arrest of Parviz Gashimly . However, he is seriously concerned about the fact of the arrest of the journalist with active citizenship and human rights activities, shocking media community .
MRI intends to provide legal assistance to protect human rights of P.Gashimli . -16D04-
