Karabakh: No Alternative toWar?
The Armenian Armed Forces used 60, 82 and 120 mm mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns in various parts of the front during the past days and thus violated the ceasefire 116 times. According to the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, the attacks were carried out both from Armenia and in Karabakh.
In particular, from the territory of Armenia the enemy fired at the Tovuz, Gazakh and Gedabey regions. In Karabakh, the shelling was carried out in the directions of the Terter, Goranboy, Goygol, Aghdam, Fizuli, Jabrayil and Khojavand regions.
In view of the operational situation, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan inflicted 122 fire impacts on the enemy positions and trenches.
At the same time, last night was quiet in the Terter and Aghdam regions, compared to 26-28 April, when numerous villages were subjected to heavy shelling and there were civilian casualties.
The Armenian side also reports on the relatively calm situation at the front.
Meanwhile, the Armenian side demonstrates a tightening position on the diplomatic direction.
Thus, the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated three conditions for resuming the negotiations - the introduction of mechanisms to investigate the truce, address representations and warranties of "no renewed aggression" on the part of Azerbaijan.
And the leader of Karabakh separatists Bako Sahakyan said the Armenian side does not intend to discuss the return of areas, and this is possible only if the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized.
This approach of the Armenian side in fact nullifies the chances of a peaceful settlement of the problem. Moreover, the OSCE Minsk Group since the April exacerbation has been demonstrating a complete failure and inability to promote the peace process. Armenia is trying again to bring the negotiations to discussing the strengthening of security measures, i.e. preservation of the conflict, but it does not want any real decision. Azerbaijan has no other choice but to use its right to restore its territorial integrity. -06D--

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
