Kiev and Moscow prepare for talks
Baku/26.02.22/Turan: On the night of February 25-26 position battles took place in various regions of Ukraine.
The Russian command used landing tactics and attacks on military units. Judging by reports from both sides, the Ukrainians are succeeding in thwarting the aggressor's plans to seize cities. Most of the fighting is taking place on the outskirts of towns, and Russian troops avoid getting involved in street battles. This is the case in Kiev, Mariupol, Sumy, Kharkov, Nikolaev and other cities.
There are casualties on both sides in manpower and equipment.
President Zelensky has refused US offers to evacuate Kiev.
Presidential press secretary Sergei Nikiforov said that the Ukrainian leadership had agreed to Russian President Vladimir Putin's offer for talks.
Putin offered Kiev talks on guarantees of Ukraine's non-alignment (its "neutrality"). Zelensky himself, commenting on Moscow's proposal, said he was ready for talks that would give the state guarantees of its security.
"Ukraine has been and remains ready to talk about a cease-fire and peace. This is our unchanged position. We have responded by agreeing to the Russian President's proposal. Right now, the parties are consulting on the place and time of the negotiation process. The sooner the negotiations begin, the better the chance of restoring normal life will be."
Zelensky has asked Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to mediate the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Jerusalem.
Today or tomorrow we can expect a ceasefire and the military phase to move into the negotiation phase.-0-
