Leyla Yunus awarded prize named after Sergio Vieira de Mello

The announcement ceremony of the 11th edition of the Polish Award named after Sergio Vieira de Mello, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (2002-2003), took place at the International Conference “The Power of the Powerless – Revisited” on October 23, 2014 in Villa Decius in Krakow. Leyla Yunus, Azerbaijani human rights activist director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy, arrested on charges of treason became the winner of this Prize.

This year the Panel of Judges decided honor Leyla Yunus from Azerbaijan in the Personal Achievement Category.
 
The award was announced on October 23 at the conference "The Power of the Powerless - Revisited" in Krakow, held by the international association of intercultural dialogue Villa Decius. 
 
At the award ceremony Leyla Yunus was represented by Atakhan Abilov, who called on the Polish leaders to intensify the struggle for the liberation of the spouses - Leyla Yunus and ArifYunus, as well as all political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
