List of Monuments Destroyed in Shelling by Armenians Announced
The State Committee for Work with Religious Societies (SCWRS) has compiled a list of historical and religious monuments that were destroyed in the course of Armenian attacks in early April. The list has been directed to the Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
According to SCWRS, 6 tombstones in a cemetery in the village of Mahryzly Agdamli were completely destroyed during the shelling by the enemy. Another 7 monuments were destroyed partially.
In addition, severely damaged are the walls of mosques in the villages Khindiristan, Ahmadagali and Zangishaly, and Juma in Terter. Back in the first Karabakh war a shell damaged one of the minarets of the mosque.
Armenia's actions violate the provisions of a number of international law instruments and in particular the 1954 Hague Convention "On protection of cultural property during armed conflict," the European Convention "On protection of the archaeological heritage" of 1992, and the UNESCO Convention "On the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" of 1972.
SCWRS notes that in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan there are 403 historical and religious monuments, including 67 mosques, 144 temples and 192 sanctuaries. -06D-
