Members of the National Council visit the monument to Turkish soldiers

On September 15 on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from Bolshevik-Dashnak forces, representatives of the National Council of Democratic Forces, the party "Musavat", "Civil Solidarity" and other non-governmental organizations visited the monument to Turkish soldiers  and put flowers.  The obelisk is set in Upland Park of the capital near the Alley of Martyrs, where the rest participants of the Karabakh war and victims of January 20.

In 1918, the Caucasian Islamic Army, which consisted of Turkish soldiers and officers, led fierce battles for the liberation of Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan. Thousands of Turkish troops died for the freedom of Azerbaijan. Some of them were buried in this place.

At the improvised meeting, the head of the National Council Jamil Hasanli called the liberation of Baku an important page in the history of Azerbaijan. According to him, this day will be observed as long as the people of Azerbaijan exist. September 15 should be included in the list of national holidays of the country, said Hasanli.

The PFPA leader Ali Kerimli called the liberation of Baku from occupation  the second significant event after the announcement of the Azerbaijan People's Republic. It became clear example of the Azerbaijani-Turkish brotherhood based not on intergovernmental relations, but on relations between nations. "The governments of Turkey and Azerbaijan differ, however, there has alsways been brotherhood of nations,"  said Kerimli. -03C04-
