Merkel excludes Georgia's early accession to NATO
Tbilisi / 24.08.18 / Turan: A Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, excluded the possibility of Georgia's early admission to NATO. During the visit to Tbilisi on Friday, the Chancellor touched upon the issue of the territorial integrity of Georgia. Calling events in Abkhazia and South Ossetia "a great injustice," Merkel said: "This is an occupation. My answer is that 20% of the territory of Georgia is occupied, and this is a great injustice," Merkel said at a meeting with students of the Tbilisi State University.
The German Chancellor noted that Georgia is slowly integrating into the European Union and NATO. "We must openly admit that there is no need to wait for Georgia's accession to NATO soon. The reason is in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. This is Germany's position and it will remain so," Merkel said. -02D-
