Municipal Elections Do Not Represent Public Interest, Political Parties Consider
A number of opposition parties expressed their attitude to the municipal elections passing today in their talk with Turan.
The Chairman of the party Musavat Arif Hajili said that the party has not taken a decision to participate in the elections or boycott them. However, some members of the party on their own participated in them. "The party did not participate in the municipal elections, as they do not represent the public interest," said Arif Hajili. According to him, another reason for the municipal elections not to be interesting is that this structure has not emerged as a governing body. On the other hand, the elections in the country are not democratic, as usual. Despite the fact that the presidential and parliamentary elections are monitored by numerous observers, the election results are falsified. Arif Hajili argues that the results of the current municipal elections do not reflect the will of the voters. For this reason, the party Musavat does not show interest in them.
The Chairman of the Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu also said that his party would not participate in the municipal elections as a political force because of financial difficulties. Only some of its members participate in the elections in private. According to him, about 40 people stood as candidates, but they have not been registered illegally. One or two candidates were registered, Jalaloglu said. "These elections cannot be called elections because they do not cause the public interest, do not serve the democratic development, and are only a formal process," said the Chairman of the Democratic Party.
The Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of PFPA Hasan Karimov said that neither the party nor its members took part in the municipal elections. "We do not wish to participate in these elections, giving them a kind of democracy," said Hasan Karimov. He recalled that even before the election one of the MPs said that the list of members of the municipalities is ready. According to Karimov, the municipalities do not give anything to the people, which is the reason for the mass non-participation of the people in these elections.
