Ilham Aliyev: Baku Prepares for European Games
On Monday, the head of state took part in the event at the National Olympic Committee, where he spoke about the preparations for the first European Games in Baku in June 2015.
Preparatory works are in the final stage. All work is carried out with high quality on schedule. All the sports facilities will be ready on time. As a result of these Games a new infrastructure will be created in Azerbaijan, and in the future it will be possible to carry out and the Summer Olympic Games, Aliyev said.
“All the existing sports facilities are being repaired. A large Olympic Stadium, a water sports stadium and others are being built. At the same time a center called Baku Sport City is under construction. It will be a unique sports center,” Aliyev said.
Thanks to the Games, transport issues are solved, roads, bridges and overpasses are built, and new buses are bought.
Large environmental projects are implemented. The purification of the lake Boyukshor is conducted. It will be divided into two parts and a dam on it will be a paved road.
The purification of the lake Boyukshor will create an area of 300 hectares in the city, with a clean lake, a boulevard and walking and biking trails.
At the same time a beautiful sports center is built in the area, where the Sport City is situated, in the place of old oilfield towers. The Bibi-Heybat oilfields are among the oldest in the world. Now the area is cleaned and a large park of 20 hectares is laid. The neighborhood of the Water Sports Palace, perhaps, will be the most beautiful parkland in Baku, Aliyev said. -02D-
