NAP finally sacrificed Gular Akhmedova

The former MP Gular Ahmedova, after her MP seat, has also lost the status of a party member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP). The decision to exclude her from the ranks of NAP was taken by the party’s primary regional organization in Baku State University, where she teaches. The NAP Press Service confirmed the news.

Akhmedova is involved in criminal case on Article 178.3.2 (embezzlement on a large scale through the abuse of trust) of the Criminal Code, which was filed in late September by the prosecutor of Baku due to the Internet video of her conversation with the former Rector of Azerbaijan International University (AIU) Elshad Abdullayev.

On the video they discussed a bribe for election of Abdullayev as MP in the 2005 elections. Then Abdullayev stated that he gave Akhmedova $ 1 million, which was intended to Ramiz Mehdiyev.

After the appearance of the video NAP Deputy Chairman Ali Akhmedov on behalf of the party condemned Akhmedova, saying that she could no longer represent NAP in the Parliament. After that Akhmedova wrote a statement renouncing her parliamentary mandate, saying it was her desire to "contribute to the investigation."

However, she retained membership in the party. Moreover, in response to the criticism by some NAP figures Akhmedova threatened that she would "begin to talk", hinting to make contradictory revelations. After that, Akhmedova was left in peace in NAP. Further, clearly feeling that the threat of punishment was over, Akhmedova began to appear in public, and even spoke at the presentation of a book written by her former assistant.

Now, the decision to exclude Akhmedova from NAP was obviously influenced by the second video published by Abdullayev. This video does not represent Akhmedova directly, but her friend Sevinj Babayeva says that Akhmedova and she safely delivered the money to Ramiz Mehdiyev.

Overall, this video has not had such a sensational resonance, as the first one, and in fact repeated it. However, on this video Babayeva called Mehdiyev "a rat", meaning that he was greedy and did not give them any "bonus" money. Maybe it hurt Ramiz Enverovich, and the “party punishment” of Akhmedova followed urgently. –0--
