NCDF Condemns Extension of Detention for Yadigar Sadigov
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) condemned the August 24 extension of detention for Yadigar Sadigov, councilor to the chair of the Musavat party.
Sadigov was arrested in Lankaran two months ago on charges of hooliganism. The real reason was preparation by Sadigov of the visit of Musavat leader Isa Gambar, to Lankaran.
NCDF believes that the extension of the arrest of the opposition leader at the beginning of the election campaign questions the legitimacy of the election. Also, it appears to be another indication of the intolerable pre-election situation and the lack of equal opportunities for all participants in the election.
NCDF believes that the prosecution of citizens for political reasons is aimed at preventing the growth of the activity of the society before the election.
NCDF demands the immediate release of Sadigov and other political activists, the cessation of repression of freedom of expression and assembly, and the creation of a democratic election atmosphere. -06D-
