Norway called on Armenians to refrain from the use of Khojaly airport

Norway supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. Therefore Oslo urges Armenia to refrain from flying to Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced today in Baku by the Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

Speaking at a joint press conference after the talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, he said: "We have sent a message to Armenia on the inadmissibility of the flights."

According to him, they should not take action that "can cause damage to the peace process."

In turn, Mammadyarov said that from a humanitarian point of view, there is no meaning of the opening of the airport in Khojaly.

"This should be part of a peace agreement on the settlement of the conflict and should be followed after the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Otherwise, the opening of the airport and the start of operations is illegal and contrary to the Chicago Convention, ICAO,” he said.

Commenting on the distribution of Syrian Armenians in the Azerbaijani territories, Mammadyarov said that the issue was on the agenda of the negotiations with the OSCE Minsk Group.

"This is a small number of displaced people, but in any case, it's illegal, and Azerbaijan brought its position to the OSCE Minsk Group," he said.

Mammadyarov also said that on January 28 the OSCE Minsk Group will be meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, but the format of the negotiations has not been determined. -06D -
