One of the main enemies of Erdogan may be released
Sentenced to life imprisonment on the case of Ergenekon, former Chief of General Staff of Turkish Armed Forces Ilker Basbug can be released. This sensational information was conveyed by the Turkish website haber.com.
Discussions about the release of Basbug at a meeting in the Istanbul Court for Serious Crimes were initiated by the Prosecutor Zafar Koch.
Ilker Basbug has been imprisoned in Silivri for two years. His lawyer Ilkay Sezer on December 31 presented evidence to the court justifying the release of Basbug. However, the court refused to grant the petition of the lawyer, explaining that with the life sentence. Then the case was forwarded by the lawyer to the next court, which can make a final decision .
Ilker Basbug was arrested in 2011 and accused of training with a group of generals for the military coup and bombings in mosques.
Note that Basbug is the most senior military convicted in Turkey during the reign of the Islamists. Observers note that the decision to release him from prison means that Prime Minister Erdogan loses control over the judiciary and the beginning of a new stage of political crisis, which could lead to the fact that Erdogan himself will appear in the dock. -05D04-
