PACE Appoints Rapporteur on Safety of Journalists and Human Rights Defenders
Strasbourg/11.10.22/Turan: Issues related to the threats to the life and safety of journalists and human rights defenders in Azerbaijan were discussed on October 11 in the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The committee appointed British MP Hannah Bardell as rapporteur to investigate and prepare a report on the topic.
A group of PACE deputies called for the preparation of a draft resolution on the subject of threats to the life and safety of journalists and human rights defenders in Azerbaijan for the summer session of PACE.
For two years, Hanna Bardell will deal with these issues and prepare reports for PACE.-16d-

According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, the Binaqadi Court in Baku has extended the detention period for the previously arrested leaders of the Karabakh separatists: Arkadiy Gukasyan, Bako Saakyan, Araik Arutyunyan, David Babayan, David Ishkhanyan, Leva Mnatsakanyan, David Manukyan, and Ruben Vardanyan. The corresponding motion was submitted to the court by the Investigative Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan.

The investigative team from the prosecutor's office and police in France continues to investigate the murder of Vidadi Iskanderli, the victim's brother, Oktay Iskanderli said. "According to one version from the investigation team, the murder was planned and carried out by professional killers. The killers did not take any valuables from the house, nor did they take the computer, phone, or money," he said.
