PACE co-rapporteurs arrive in Baku
PACE rapporteurs Pedro Agramunt (Spain) and Joseph Debono Grech (Malta) on May 19-21, will visit Azerbaijan to monitor the situation to fulfill the country's obligations to the Council of Europe, the press service of the Council of Europe reported.
In Baku talks are scheduled with President Ilham Aliyev, the Ministries of Justice and Internal Affairs and the Attorney General.
The visitors are also scheduled to meet with representatives of political parties, the head of the Supreme Court and the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE.
Recall that on May 21-13 the CoE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland will also visit Baku. In addition, on 22 and 23 May meetings of the Bureau and the Standing Committee of the PACE will be held in Baku. – 06B-

On November 14, the House of Commons of the UK Parliament held a hearing on "Academic Freedom and Corruption in Azerbaijan's Energy Sector," focusing on the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
