PACE President Condemns Pardon for Safarov
PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon is concerned about the grave deterioration of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan after the decision to pardon Safarov, his statement reads.
Commenting on the issue of Safarov, the head of PACE indicated that he "joins the international condemnation of the glorification of the terrible crime committed by Safarov, and for which he was convicted by a court of the country of the Council of Europe."
Mignon is sure Safarov's release "is unacceptable." According to him, "this scandalous release has very negative consequences for the already strained relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan." According to the head of PACE, this situation leads to "destabilizing of the situation in the region."
"I call on the Azerbaijani authorities to reconsider their position - in line with the Council of Europe standards," said Mignon. -02D-
