PACE to Send Assessment Mission to Referendum
Strasbourg / 21.09.16 / Turan: The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is to send a seven-member “assessment mission”, headed by Aleksandar Nikoloski (“the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”, EPP/CD), to the 26 September referendum on amendments to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, following an invitation from the authorities.
The delegation is due to meet the President of Azerbaijan, the Speaker of Parliament (the Milli Mejlis), the head of the Central Electoral Commission and members of Azerbaijan’s delegation to PACE, as well as civil society and media representatives. On the day of the referendum, members will be present in polling stations.
The delegation is composed of:

The head of the delegation will present its conclusions at a press conference at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday 27th September, at the Holiday Inn hotel, Baku. ---16D------

On December 24, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husyev. During the meeting, there was an exchange of views on Azerbaijan-Ukraine relations. "It was noted that our countries are reliable partners and that the relations are built on a solid foundation. It was emphasized that our countries mutually support each other on issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty."

On December 24, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, met with a parliamentary delegation from Georgia headed by the Chairman of the Committee on Youth, Science, and Education, Givi Mikanadze. According to the press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis, the meeting emphasized the importance of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, highlighting the high level of cooperation and the continuous mutual support of the peoples of both countries.
