Parliamentary crisis in Georgia
Tbilisi/18.11.19/Turan: Opposition representatives and their supporters, demanding an early election, blocked all entries to the Georgian parliament and do not allow deputies there, local media reported.
There are tents in front of the building, and the parliament itself is surrounded by chains and castles, the surrounding area is fenced with sandbags.
The protesters at first did not let the deputy Revaz Arveladze into the parliament, they shouted: "Leave!"
After him, MPs Gia Zhorjoliani and Merab Kvaray tried to enter parliament, but because of a brawl with the picketers, they had to leave the territory with the help of the police.
All opposition forces have come together and are demanding early parliamentary elections and a transitional government.
Last week, parliament failed the adoption of the law on parliamentary elections in 2020 according to the proportional system.
Earlier, the adoption of these amendments to the law was promised by the leader of the ruling party Bidzina Ivanishvili. However, during the vote, deputies from the ruling "Georgian Dream" failed a bill of their own party.
The opposition considers the current proportional-majority system to be unjust, for this gives the ruling party a serious advantage. In the 2016 elections, “Georgian Dream” gained 48.7% of the vote, but it received 115 out of 150 (77%) and the status of a constitutional majority.
Meanwhile, the Georgian Interior Ministry threatened to disperse the protesters. -02D-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
