Preliminary hearing on the appeal of Anar Mammadov postponed
Preliminary hearing in the case of the head of the Election Monitoring Center Anar Mammadov and two other activists, scheduled for August 18 in the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA), has been postponed. The reason was the non-appearance of the lawyer of one of the defendants.
In this regard, the judge Aflatun Gasimov postponed the meeting for 11:00 on 22 August.
On May 26 the head of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDSC) Anar Mammadov was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment, and the executive secretary of the NGO Bashir Suleymanli to 3.5 years. For the same period was conditionally sentenced the head of the Public Association for International Cooperation Volunteers Elnur Mammadov. They were found guilty of tax evasion, illegal business, assignment, etc..
A large number of supporters welcomed the accused Mammadov and Suleymanli by applause. The arrested people met the audience with cheering and gestures.
According to human rights, the true reason for the condemnation of activists is exposing the rigged presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October 2013. Defense intends to achieve full justification of the accused. -06C06-
