Prosecutor General's Office: There Was No Early Release of Convicted Security Officers
Baku / 10.21.18 / Turan: The widespread information about the premature release of officials of the liquidated Ministry of National Security (MNS) sentenced to imprisonment does not correspond to reality. This was stated by the press service of the Prosecutor General"s Office.
The prosecutor"s office categorically denies the early release of convicted former officials of the liquidated MNS.
The statement said the Baku Military Court sentenced the former MNS officials Subai Gurbanov, Fizuli Aliyev, Teymur Guliyev, Zaur Mammadov, Natig Aliyev, Natavan Mirvatova, Farhad Atayev, Elshad Azizov, Anar Shiraliyev and Eshgin Aliyev to various terms of imprisonment on charges of abuse of official powers, etc.
The prosecutor's office at the same time confirmed the release of two convicts in the above case. However, they were released due to the completion of their real term of conviction. We are talking about Eshgin Aliyev and Anar Shiraliyev, deprived of their liberty for a term of 3 years by the Baku Military Court.
The prosecutor's office stresses that when the court pronounced the verdict, it was taken into account that they had committed a less serious crime, as well as their close cooperation with the investigation. The punishment of Eshgin Aliyev is counted from October 17, 2015, and the punishment of Anar Shiraliyev - from October 18, 2015.
"They were released in connection with the termination of the term of punishment," the Prosecutor General"s Office said in a statement, and also spoke of the release of the former head of the MNS Directorate Vusal Alekperov.
In October 2015, 22 MNS officers were prosecuted. One of them - the deputy head of the MNS Anti-Terrorist Center, Ilgar Aliyev, committed suicide in jail two months after his arrest. -0-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
