Prosecutor Urges to Sentence Journalists to 4.5 Years for Guba Events
Today in Khachmaz District Court the prosecutor in the case of the defendants in the unrest in Guba (March 1, 2012) held a speech.
The prosecutor called them guilty of organizing public disorder, abuse of office and several other crimes, and called to sentence: the head of the municipality of Guba Elkhan Aliyev to 6 years in prison; an employee of the local department of the State Property Committee Zakir Mammadov to 5 years; the executive director and editor in chief of the TV channel Khayal TV Vugar Gonagov and Zaur Guliyev to 4.5 years; the owner of a gas station Gulaga Agayev to 3 years, and his grandson Mukhtar Alekperov – to 4.5 years in prison.
The hearing will continue on March 12 with the speech of the advocates.
* Previously on the Guba events 24 people were sentenced, including seven people to real terms in jail, and the rest - to probation.
** 1 March 2012 in Guba the residents protested against the district head Rauf Khabibov, which turned into riots. Locals smashed and torched Khabibov’s villa. -16C-
