Baku/23.10.23/Turan: Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic visited the community of Western Azerbaijan in Baku on October 23 and held a meeting with a group of Azerbaijani refugees from Armenia.
According to the community, Mijatovic was informed about the forcible expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the lack of reaction from the international community to this.
The representatives of the community noted that the co-Rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Armenia and the Commissioner for Human Rights should deal with this issue. The community called on Mijatovic to support the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to their homes.
In the course of communication with a group of Azerbaijani refugees from Armenia, they spoke about the deportation, reporting the destruction of cemeteries and historical monuments of Azerbaijanis, as well as the murder of more than 200 Azerbaijanis during their exile.
Mijatovic noted that she understands the importance of the right of return of refugees, including Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia, and noted that the solution of this issue requires political will. She said that she would deal with the issues raised within her authority, the report says. ---16D---
