Russia to Build New Radar Station in Azerbaijan?
In 2017, Russia plans to build a new radar station in Azerbaijan instead of the old station Daryal in Gabala. This was reported by the Russian military news TV channel Zvezda, citing a source in the Russian military complex.
The new radar type Voronezh will be exclusively Russian submission. As the closed Gabala radar station, it will capture and track ballistic and cruise missiles and other aerodynamic facilities.
The station can easily pinpoint objects in the southern hemisphere, thousands of kilometers away, and simultaneously control up to 500 air targets.
The main feature of the radar Voronezh is considered to be its high factory readiness. The station consists of 23 sets of equipment and is mounted for 18-20 months (for comparison - its predecessors Volga and DTV were erected for 5-9 years).
The channel did not say about the grounds on which the new station will be built. Neither Baku nor Moscow said anything about the possible return of a Russian military base to Azerbaijan.
The Gabala radar station was built in the late 70s and closed in 2012. -0-
