Rustam Ibrahimbekov - Single Presidential Candidate of Opposition (video)
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) today with 84 votes "for" and 1 abstention put forward a candidate for the presidency of Azerbaijan, who is the famous playwright Rustam Ibrahimbekov.
His candidature was endorsed by the head of NCDF Administration and the movement EL, Eldar Namazov.
As expected, Ibrahimbekov's candidacy was supported by representatives of parties: Popular Front of Azerbaijan, Civil Solidarity, Open Society, "Classic" Popular Front, and Liberal Party. In addition, he was supported by other members of NCDF.
The statement of support for the candidacy of Ibrahimbekov by the imprisoned ex-Minister of Health Ali Insanov was also read out.
Doubts about support of Ibrahimbekova by the party Musavat were dispelled by the leader of the party Isa Gambar. He spoke in support of the candidacy of Ibrahimbekov, noting the position of the party Musavat on the need for Ibrahimbekov to return to the country before the start of the election campaign.
However, before the official registration of Ibrahimbekov as presidential candidate, the earlier decision of the Majlis of Musavat on the nomination of Isa Gambar as candidate for president will remain in force. -06C -
