Saleh Rustamov after the start of the hunger strike was placed in a prison hospital
Baku/08.11.21/Turan: The former head of the Gadabay region (1992-1993), a veteran of the first Karabakh war, Saleh Rustamov, who is serving a prison sentence, was transferred to a medical institution of the penitentiary service.
As his relatives told Turan, he has been on a hunger strike for the third day in protest against the unjustified imprisonment, confiscation of property and the failure to extend the Amnesty Act to him.
In turn, his lawyer Bahruz Bayramov said that he met with Rustamov on November 8 at a medical institution.
“Saleh Rustamov is determined to continue the hunger strike. He said that on the 10th day of the action he would switch to a dry hunger strike. Knowing its nature, I can say that this action can lead to tragic results. It is unfair to keep in prison on Victory Day the person who led one of the most successful operations of the first Karabakh war - the liberation of Bashkend, ”Bayramov told Turan.
It was not possible to obtain comments from the Penitentiary Service.
On November 5, the Azerbaijani parliament adopted a decision on amnesty. It was announced that the amnesty will affect about 16,000 people, of whom only 3,000 will be released.
* Recall that a supporter of the Popular Front Party, Saleh Rustamov, was arrested in May 2018 and sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in prison in the so-called case of "illegal financing of the Popular Front Party." Subsequently, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence by 2 months. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. -06D-
