On July 3 the Sumgayit City Court will pass a sentence against the PPFA youth activist, Dashgin Melikov. He is charged under Article 234.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal purchase or possession of drugs.) Earlier, the prosecutor called to sentence Melikov to three years in prison, maximum penalty under this article. Melikov suffers from bronchial asthma, and is a disabled group.
The defendant denies all the charges, calling them politically motivated. His supporters also argue that the true cause of his arrest is political activity. This opposition member was been an active participant in the political actions of young people this spring, and also criticized the government in social networks.
He was arrested on March 25. Human rights activists believe that in case if he is convicted, Melikov will join the ranks of political prisoners in Azerbaijan, the total number of which in different lists is fro 80 to 100 people. -06B-

From 19 to 26 July, 24 automatic rifles, 1 machine gun, 9 rifles, 28 grenades, 441 shells, 3118 cartridges of different calibre and other ammunition were found in Khankendi, the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry reported. President Ilham Aliyev has approved by decree the Azerbaijan-Kazakh intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in military intelligence defense sector. The document was signed in Baku on 7 June 2024.
