Second Russian base in Armenia, and division of Armenians into their own and Karabakh
Baku/24.12.20/Turan: The socio-political crisis in Armenia after the defeat in the war exacerbated numerous problems and gave rise to new ones. One of them is fear of Azerbaijan and Turkey. It turned out to be so large that calls to create a second Russian military base in Armenia - in Syunik - sound quite serious. Such a proposal was made the day before
leader of the "Enlightened Armenia" party, represented in parliament, Edmon Marukyan. At a press conference on Wednesday, he said that the most important issue now is to ensure the security of the Syunik region, since the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were in close proximity to Armenian settlements.
Marukyan drew attention to the fact that the Azerbaijani authorities are planning to increase the military budget for 2021 to $ 2.7 billion, which is more than in 2020. "Azerbaijan is preparing for new adventures. To counter these challenges, it is necessary to start negotiations on signing a new agreement with Russia and establishing a base in Syunik. According to him, even if now the entire budget of Armenia is directed to defense, these funds will still not be enough. It is noteworthy that quite recently the same Marukyan spoke from directly opposite positions, stating that the Russian base in Armenia is not needed.
Another topical topic of recent times has been the open enmity of the Yerevan Armenians with the Karabakh people. Even during the hostilities in Karabakh, despite the authorities' calls for consolidation, and especially after the defeat in the war in Armenia, the persecution of the Karabakh Armenians began, especially on social networks. It got to the point that the ombudsmen of Armenia and Karabakh, Arman Tatoyan and Artak Beglaryan, appealed to citizens to stop sowing hatred and not pour water on the enemy's mill, Sputnik Armenia writes.
All this conceals real threats to the statehood of Armenia. The thesis: "Let the Karabakh people defend their Karabakh themselves" is a direct evidence of this. Such an opinion has been heard in Armenia for more than a dozen years, but in the recent period, it has become extremely acute and spills out into insulting calls in social networks to drive the Karabakh people out of Armenia. -02D-
