Sergey Lavrov on Russia's role in the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement
Moscow/21.01.22/Turan: Russia proceeds from the necessity to fully implement the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia of November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021 and November 26, 2021. The tasks of priority importance today are to launch the process of delimitation and demarcation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and to unblock transport and economic links in the region. This is reported in the answer of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the questions asked at the press-conference on the results of 2021.
"We stand up for all those who want to get involved in the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and ensuring stability and security in the South Caucasus to proceed from the interests of the parties and take into account the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia," he stated.
Responding to a question about tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Lavrov noted that Moscow is making efforts to resolve the situation on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"It is essential to form and launch as soon as possible the activity of the bilateral commission on delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border with its subsequent demarcation. We are ready to provide Baku and Yerevan with consultative assistance on this track.
When it comes to the problem of prisoners, Russia is actively involved in its solution. We would remind you that since December 2, 2020, a total of 146 detainees have been returned with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers: 127 to the Armenian side and 19 to the Azerbaijani side," Lavrov said. -02D-
