From today on, Baku hosts the NATO international summer school on "Meeting the challenges: international opportunities and resources." The session has involved a few dozen young people from different countries, representing political and social organizations and experts.
The opening was attended by the Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan, Daniel Ciobanu (coordinator of the ties between NATO and Azerbaijan).
The Deputy Chief of the Security Department of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, Gaya Mammadov in his speech touched on the role and functions of the state in times of crisis, and in particular, described the experience of NATO in this area.
Daniel Ciobanu, in turn, shared his opinion about the possibilities of joint actions of NATO in countering the threat of global economic crisis, combating terrorism, promoting democracy and protecting human rights worldwide.
Answering journalists' questions, Ciobanu appreciated the cooperation of Azerbaijan with NATO and in particular the support of the international coalition forces in Afghanistan by Baku.
The summer session will run until July 7. The program includes the following topics: "A theoretical view of the crisis," "Review of military crises," "Financial crisis," "Regional conflicts," "Nuclear energy,” etc.
The NATO envoy for the South Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai will speak at the session on July 5. -03C-
