Term of arrest of Nijat Guliyev extended
The Sabail district court extended for another two months the arrest of the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Cooperation Nijat Guliyev charged with illegal possession of weapons.
As the lawyer Elton Guliyev said, the decision was taken on October 1 on the brief submitted by the investigation.
Arrested on Aug. 7, Guliyev rejects the accusation.
Guliyev was the Minister in 1993-95. Later he went to Adjara, where he was an advisor at the president Aslan Abashidze, until his resignation in 2004. After that, he returned to Baku and was engaged in business in Azerbaijan and Turkey. He was not noticed in any political, social or other public activities.
In October 2005, Guliyev was arrested along with a group of high-ranking officials on charges of attempting to overthrow the government. However, two weeks later, he was released and was not attracted to criminal liability. -16/06D-
