The authorities unlawfully restrict Jamil Gasanli"s meeting with voters
The executive power of Jalilabad approved the appointment on September 27 of a pre-election meeting of the presidential candidate of the National Council Jamil Gasanli in Jalilabad. The action can be carried out from 16.00 to 18.00.
However, in the response signed by the first deputy head of the district, Asif Azizov, it is emphasized that the meeting can be participated "only by voters from the Jalilabad area, as participation of unauthorized persons can cause unpleasant events between the supporters of the candidates."
In the case of the participation in the meeting of persons not related to the Jalilabad region, the responsibility will rest with the organizers of the rally, said Azizov.
Commenting this conclusion for Turan, the Executive Secretary of the Centre for Monitoring Elections and Democracy Training (CMEDT) Bashir Suleymanli called it not logical or lawful.
"In the legislation there are no restrictions on the participation of citizens in meetings on the principle of territorial jurisdiction. It turns out that meetings in Baku can be only attended by Baku people. On the other hand, at a time when the election campaign is compressed up to 22 days, the candidates do not physically have time to visit all areas and can therefore carry out meetings with voters in selected cities to meet with people from across the entire region," said Suleymanli.
Meanwhile, the rallies committee of NCDF Committee stated that the meeting in Jalilabad was postponed to another time because of the unreasonable restriction of the local authorities and transfer of the rally in support of Gasanli in Baku from 29 to 28 September. -06D-
