The clashes of police and protesters in Yerevan
Yerevan / 16.04.18 / Turan: As a result of clashes between protesters and police on Bagramyan Avenue in Yerevan, several demonstrators were injured, RFE/RL reported. The police stretched barbed wire and used special equipment - noise grenades. After that, the police in the forefront put on gas masks. Also, the police warned the demonstrators that a decision was made to disperse the demonstration.
Earlier, opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan said that he and his three colleagues want to go "to the place of work" - the National Assembly. Deputy Chief of Police of Yerevan, Valery Osipiyan, responded that he would only pass deputies. However, Pashinyan said that he should not be told where and how he should go to work. He said that together with him there are journalists and registered citizens. After that, Pashinyan tried to pass through the barrage, but the police prevented him and the protesters who followed him, after which the confrontation began and the police applied special means.
This morning the police put up a cordon at the beginning of Bagramyan Avenue, where the building of the National Assembly is located. Today, early in the morning hundreds of activists and students supporting the movement led by Nikol Pashinyan blocked a number of central streets and crossroads of the Armenian capital, which paralyzed traffic in many parts of the city.
Thus, the protesters are trying to prevent the extension of Serzh Sargsyan's power already as prime minister. Voting on the candidacy of the ex-president is scheduled in parliament on April 17. -02D-
