The court again refused to transfer Gubad Ibadoglu to a medical institution
Baku/19.12.23/Turan: On December 19, the Narimanov District Court of Baku rejected a request to transfer the arrested opposition economist Gubad Ibadoglu to a medical institution of the Ministry of Justice, his lawyer Zibeida Sadygova said.
According to her, a representative of the Medical Department of the Ministry of Justice stated that Gubad Ibadoglu's health is normal and therefore there is no need to transfer him to a medical institution. Gubad Ibadoglu participated in the trial and brought to the attention of the court special nuances related to his health. "He said he needed treatment; he needed a doctor all the time. Doctors cannot treat him in jail. To do this, he must be transferred to a hospital for serious treatment. However, the representative of the General Medical Department did not agree with this," the lawyer said.
On July 24 of this year, the Narimanov District Court announced the arrest for 3 months and 26 days of Gubad Ibadoglu, Doctor of Economics, chairman of the Azerbaijan Democracy and Prosperity Party (ADPP.)
He was accused of selling counterfeit money (Article 204.3.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan), as well as 167-3.1 (Storage and distribution of extremist materials). The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry said that Gubad Ibadoglu was detained as part of an operation related to supporters of Fethullah Gulen, accused of an attempted coup in Turkey in 2016.
Gubad Ibadoglu does not accept the charges and says his arrest was a political order. A number of countries and international organizations, including the U.S. State Department, U.S. senators and congressmen, have called for Ibadoglu's release.-03-
