The court extended the arrest of employees of the Youtube publication "Kanal 13”
On June 25, the Sabail Court of Baku extended for another 3 months (until September 27) the term of arrest of Aziz Orujev, director of the Yotube edition of “Kanal 13”, and his employee Shamo Eminov, lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev told Turan. Aziz Orujev and Shamo Eminov were arrested in November-December 2023 on charges of smuggling currency by an organized group. Both deny the charges, considering their journalistic activities to be the true reason for the arrest.
Reporters Without Borders, Amnesty International, the European Federation of Journalists and a number of other local and international human rights organizations, as well as the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, PACE speakers called on Baku to stop pressure on independent media and release the arrested journalists.

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
