The head of the US diplomatic mission met with Gubad Ibadoglu`s lawyers
Baku/01.09.23/Turan: On Friday, the US Charge d'affaires in Azerbaijan, Yugo Guevara, met with lawyers of the arrested head of the Azerbaijani Welfare Democracy Party, Gubad Ibadoglu. At the meeting, Zibeyd Sadygov and Bahruz Bayramov were informed about Ibadoglu's case and his state of health, Bayramov's lawyer told Turan.
According to him, Guevara was interested in Ibadoglu's state of health and steps to protect his rights. "We told about Ibadoglu's serious health, measures to protect the politician, the shortage of medicines for his treatment. Guevara said that the US government is seriously monitoring the Ibadoglu case, the State Department, as well as the American Embassy, together with embassies of other countries, made statements on the Ibadoglu case," the lawyer said.
*On July 24, the Narimanov District Court of Baku arrested Gubad Ibadoglu for 3 months and 26 days on charges of making counterfeit money. The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry said that Ibadoglu is associated with supporters of Fethullah Gulen, accused of an attempted coup in 2016 in Turkey. On August 25, he was charged with another charge of "manufacturing, storing or distributing religious extremist materials."
Gubad Ibadoglu denies the accusations, considering them absurd. Many international organizations and officials have called on official Baku to immediately release the politician. ---03B06---
