The hearing in the European Parliament on the presidential elections in Azerbaijan

Baku/04.10.13/Turan : Yesterday the European Parliament in Brussels held discussions about the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

Before hearing the representatives of immigrant organizations - the Democratic Movement of Azerbaijan held a rally on Luxembourg Square, involving political refugees from other countries.

At the meeting were former Colonel Isa Sadigov, journalists Fikret Guseynli and Mirza Sakit , the former opposition activists Eldaniz Yusibov , Ilham Hassan , Sabir Budagov, etc. They condemned the attack from the Azerbaijani authorities on Jamil Gasanli .

Political emigres and the leader of the party Musavat Isa Gambar, attended the hearing in the European Parliament .

The moderator of the discussion was a member of the European Parliament and the Parliament of the Netherlands Gerben Jan Gerbrandy.

He said that after a week Europe"s attention will be focused on the elections in Azerbaijan.

The election campaigning in a highly stressful environment and unequal conditions concern Europe , he said.

An expert in the field of elections Caecilia van Peski also indicated that the Azerbaijani authorities have created unequal opportunities for the elections.

The leader of the party Musavat Isa Gambar said that the Azerbaijani authorities have actually created a dictatorial regime and the election of Ilham Aliyev for the third time is illegal. He pointed out that before the elections began repression against opponents of the authorities.

Representatives of the Parliament of Azerbaijan Asim Mollazadeh, Fuad Muradov and Chinghiz Asadullayev tried to deny it.

The representative of Amnesty İnternational David Nichols also pointed out the grave situation of human rights and the establishment of a police regime in Azerbaijan.

Moderator Gerbrand did not agree with all the assessments , and said that the EU is looking for cooperation with Azerbaijan in various aspects.

Following the discussions , it was noted that depending on how the elections are held , the European Parliament will take the appropriate steps . -03D-
