Baku/08.12.23/Turan: On Friday, Head of State Ilham Aliyev received Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria Peychinovich Burich. According to the press service of the President of the country, Burich stressed that she highly appreciates the reforms being implemented in Azerbaijan and the steps taken to ensure sustainable peace in the region. Regarding yesterday's joint statement by Azerbaijan and Armenia and the measures resulting from it to restore trust between the two countries, the Council of Europe is ready to contribute to strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In response, Aliyev said that the joint statement of Azerbaijan and Armenia "is a demonstration of mutual political will to promote a mutual peaceful agenda and normalize relations between the countries." According to him, the Council of Europe is "a good platform for promoting trust processes between the two countries." The parties noted the importance of a constructive dialogue between the parliamentary delegations of Azerbaijan and Armenia in PACE was noted.
The meeting also touched upon the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe in the field of intercultural dialogue and stressed the importance of its continuation. -0-
