The order of formation of the Judicial and Legal Council is changing in Azerbaijan
Baku/14.06.23/Turan: The procedure for forming the composition of the Judicial and Legal Council (JLC) is changing in Azerbaijan. This is provided for by amendments to the law "On the Judicial and Legal Council", which were approved by today's decree of President Ilham Aliyev. The JLC will, as before, consist of 15 members.
Three of them will be appointed by the conference of judges of the courts of cassation, three – by the conference of judges of the courts of appeal, three – by judges of the courts of first instance.
In addition, the JLC will include: a judge appointed by the Constitutional Court; a person appointed by Parliament; a person appointed by the Ministry of Justice; a lawyer appointed by the Bar Association; a legal scientist appointed by the National Academy of Sciences; a person appointed by the conference of representatives of the legal community.
Previously, the JLC included the Minister of Justice, who was ex officio chairman of the Council, the head of the Supreme Court, persons appointed by the relevant executive authority, Parliament, and a judge appointed by the Constitutional Court.
In addition, the JLC currently includes two judges of the Supreme Court, courts of Appeal, a judge of the Supreme Court of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an appointee of the Ministry of Justice, a lawyer appointed by the Presidium of the Bar Association and a person appointed by the Prosecutor General. ---06B---
