The problem of political prisoners in Azerbaijan in the center of attention of Paris
Baku / 09.10.17 / Turan: An official response was sent to the appeal of 33 international NGOs to French President Emmanuel Macron in connection with the problem of political prisoners in Azerbaijan. Turan was informed about this by a source in the civil society of Azerbaijan.
The message, signed by the head of Macron's office François-Xavier Lauch, assures that the French government is keeping in focus the concern of international NGOs in connection with political prisoners.
The French Diplomatic Service closely monitors the situation of these individuals, with particular sensitivity to ensuring their rights, including the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial.
In this connection, the representative of the French Foreign Ministry, the French Embassy in Baku, the Permanent Mission of France to the Council of Europe and the representative in the OSCE call on the Azerbaijani government to comply with its voluntary commitments to the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights and international conventions.
In addition, the French government continues a bilateral dialogue with Azerbaijan aimed at developing the country's civil society and strengthening democratic institutions, the answer was noted.
