The Term of Arrest of NIDA Activists Extended
Today the Nasimi Court extended the arrest of two activists, Rashad Hasanov and Bakhtiyar Guliyev from the youth organization NIDA for another 3 months.
According to lawyer Asabali Mustafayev, who talked to Turan, the arrest is extended until December 7. The investigator explained this is needed to conduct several examinations and investigations.
The lawyer calls the case "baseless" and intends to appeal.
Addressing the court, Rashad Hasanov said that he still does not know the reasons for his arrest, and that so far no one has given any evidence against him, saying his detention is meaningless.
In a press release today by NIDA also announced the extension of the arrest of two other activists, Mohammed Azizov and Shaheen Novruzlu.
* Currently there are 7 activists from NIDA under arrest. They are charged with possession of narcotics and explosives. However, MNS workers planted evidence in their flats.
The real reason for their arrests was their calls to hold protests against soldiers' deaths.
Amnesty International recognizes the NIDA activists as “prisoners of conscience.” -16B-
